What does a volunteer do? Nothing is very difficult and we'll show you what to do.
Some examples: Water support: Bring your canoe/kayak/SUP and paddle around with the athletes as they swim. Keep an eye out for someone who might need to rest by holding onto your watercraft. We’ll pay you if you are a certified lifeguard! Timer: Record swim finish time, bike finish time, and run/over-all finish time. Two people are needed, one calls out the athlete's number and time and the other writes them down. Transition area: Do you have a loud voice? Do you like to be in charge? Ensure that only athletes go into the transition area during the race, show them the route through the area to avoid collisions, and possibly hand those who have finished that sandwich they left with their bike. Bike and/or run course support: Stand at an intersection (we'll tell you which one) and show the athletes to turn here (if they are supposed to) or to continue straight. Keep an eye out for cars for athlete safety but WE DO NOT STOP TRAFFIC. Aid station: Hand out drinks and snacks to athletes, pick up discarded cups and wrappers. Cheer them on! |
